Electric Folding Bikes / Importer Sample Checklist

Folding E-Bike Dimensions & Packing:
What Should an Importer Request?

Separate the bike's storage size from its shipping carton before approving a private-label project.

Short answer

Request assembled and folded length, width and height; the bike's net weight; the sealed carton's external dimensions and gross weight; and photographs showing the exact battery, folding state and protection used for those measurements. Keep all figures tied to one model and build revision. Wheel size alone does not establish storage space, lifting weight or shipment size.

This guide is for importers, distributors and private-label teams evaluating a folding electric bike sample. A retailer may need the folded bike to fit a storage space, while a freight team needs the final package. Give those teams separate figures so that a shipping-carton measurement does not become a folded-bike claim.

1. Ask for these measurements separately

Use millimetres for dimensions and kilograms for weights. Ask the supplier to describe the state of the bike for every figure, rather than provide one unexplained set of numbers.

On a small screen, swipe the table to read all columns.

RecordWhat to requestWhy the distinction matters
Assembled sizeLength × width × height; state the handlebar and saddle position.Defines the riding/display footprint.
Folded sizeLength × width × height; identify folded parts, battery position and any parts removed.Defines the storage configuration the customer can actually use.
Bike net weightMeasured weight of the agreed build; state whether battery and accessories are included.A figure without its inclusion list cannot support a lifting claim.
Carton external sizeLength × width × height of the closed, packed sample.Protection and accessory space can make the carton larger than the folded bike.
Packed gross weightWeight including the bike, agreed accessories, internal protection and carton. The package figure serves shipment planning, not bike handling.
Pack contents and statePhotos and a list showing battery, charger, manuals, tools and removed parts where applicable.Shows what those carton and weight figures represent.

Net weight and gross weight describe different objects. Ask the freight provider to assess the actual carton dimensions, gross weight, shipping mode and battery arrangement. Do not estimate freight cost from wheel diameter or use an unverified carton size to promise container quantities.

2. Keep the battery version in the measurement record

The EFB-01 configuration page lists a 20-inch folding electric fat-bike reference with a 750W hub motor and 48V 13Ah or 15.6Ah battery versions. It lists high-carbon steel, a Shimano TX50/TZ500 7-speed reference and folding pedals. It does not provide folded size, assembled weight, carton dimensions or range.

Specify which battery version is quoted and measured. Request its identification, fit and manufacturer instructions for removal, charging and storage. A photograph of the assembled bike cannot establish battery removability, handling weight or the fold clearance for another battery enclosure.

3. Request a useful sample photo set

  • The assembled bike with model code, build revision and battery version recorded.
  • The supplier-demonstrated folded configuration with a visible dimensional reference.
  • The hinge, latch, cable route and contact points in both positions.
  • The bike inside its protection before the carton closes.
  • The charger and accessories in their agreed locations, followed by the closed carton and recorded measurements.

Review the manufacturer's folding instructions and latch checks with the physical sample. Identify the hinge, latch, folding pedals and other replacement parts needed for the chosen build. A photo set supports the approval record; it does not replace an engineering or safety test.

4. Approve the pack that will actually ship

Agree the delivery assembly level, removed parts, protection materials, accessory list, labels and manual languages. Ask the supplier to show the unpacking and repacking sequence for that configuration. A package made for a sample shipment may differ from the proposed production pack; record the differences before approval.

Battery transport preparation is a separate decision. Record whether the battery is installed, packed with equipment or shipped separately and let the freight team confirm the applicable documents, packaging and route requirements. The US PHMSA lithium-battery guide uses different shipping scenarios; it is a starting reference, not proof that a NARVEK configuration or shipment is approved.

5. Send a brief the supplier can answer

You can send the following request before finalising a full product specification. Leave quantity or timing open if you have not decided them.

We are reviewing EFB-01 for a private-label folding electric bike project. Our selling country is [country] and intended use is [use]. Please identify the proposed battery version and build sheet. Please provide assembled and folded dimensions, bike net weight with an inclusion list, sealed-carton dimensions and gross weight, the pack contents, and a photo set showing the fold and packing state. Our estimated quantity is [quantity, if known]. Please identify any measurements or documents still pending and the sample options.

This request defines the information you need to assess the sample. It does not imply that an unmeasured dimension, test result, delivery date or market approval has been confirmed.

Before you approve the sample

  • The model, battery version and build revision match every record.
  • Folded bike size and carton size are separately identified.
  • Weight figures state exactly what is included.
  • Photos match the intended folding and packing configuration.
  • Pending information has an owner and is resolved before the relevant claim or order decision.
